Gendered approaches and digital skills in heritage expertise for community resilience

The program will focus on societal resilience and explore cultural natural heritage drivers for enhancing adaptation and preparedness for Disaster Risk Reduction, the summer school focuses especially on natural disasters and Climate Change related risks. It aims to empower Women in Science by providing them with digital skills in heritage expertise for Disaster Risk Management and with a critical understandings of gender-sensitive approaches.

 

In a rich framework of interdisciplinary activities, within the HORIZON EUROPE RESILIAGE research project, the Summer School will create opportunities of knowledge transfer and consultation based on the wide range of international experts at the intersection of Humanities, Social Sciences and STEM.

 

Defining gendered experiences, approaches and understandings for disaster risk reduction strategies and identifying heritage and cultural practices as activators of community resilience, we will focus on multi-layered present and historical women-environment interactions. The participants will be engaged in real case scenarios and testimonies, experiencing customised digital tools, immersed in interactive learning experiences, both for empowering women with skills in a mainly traditional male domain and for building a new perspective of knowledge framework in the field.

 

The main objective will be to improve how to play a leading role in Heritage and Risks for building more resilient communities by fully capitalising on the capabilities of women. 

 

The scheduled one-week program with the international and multidisciplinary contribution of the experts includes an intensive agenda based on lectures, workshops, visits and collaborative group work organised throughout the entire week. The structure is divided into mornings dedicated to lectures and workshops, and afternoons, for working in parallel groups on case studies of real large scale endangered sites (urban and regional) with the teaching staff, including tutors and research trainers. The one-week program will be concluded by a pop-up exhibition and discussion of the outcomes. The program also allows consultations for discussing participants’ individual projects.

 

The summer school is held in the Valentino Castle, an amazing 17th century World Heritage site in a Park along the Po River. The social program includes visits to the historic centre of Turin, team building in an international exchange, informal meetings and dinners with the teaching committee while enjoying typical Italian surroundings and food.
